Blog Time – Let’s GO! Remember me… the one and only TrainDame from TW TrainWorx? Please believe me when I say that I’ve been diligently focused on keeping up with the Traingineers in 2023 who’ve continued; designing, fabricating, installing layouts all over the country, collaborating with new clients, introducing new product and at the same time find ourselves all dealing with… LIFE ? Ok – my last blog post was way back in 2022, uh… YIKES!!! So much to catch up with, hmmmm where to begin?? Let’s start with the LIFE part. I believe all of us will agree when I say how much of an upheaval we’ve experienced since Rona hit in 2020 – certainly NOT on my radar to start off the new decade with having to; temporarily close down business, lay off employees, deal with health issues, and virtually stop all layouts under construction – I mean…GEEZ! Seriously – you can knock me over with a feather thinking about our Traintastic customers who patiently worked with the Traingineers to bring us through ’20, ’21, ’22 and in ’23 it continues to blow my mind with new toy train loving folks who want to hop onboard the Traingineer’s Design/Build Schedule but are unfortunately getting the So sorry but we’re currently booked through 4th quarter 2024” reality check ? Get a load of this, so far in 2023, the Traveling Traingineers have successfully installed TW TrainWorx Custom Residential Layouts in; Wisconsin, Washington, Omaha, Utah, Texas and soon; Indiana, Maine, New Jersey and North Carolina ? Hot Diggity Dog! Since 2010, TW TrainWorx has been designing, fabricating, and installing the annual Trains at NorthPark train display for the amazing folks with the Ronald McDonald Charities of Dallas and currently we are preparing for the ’23 – ’24 Holiday Season as this year they will be in a new space on the Lower level of NorthPark Mall. Please SAVE THE DATE : Saturday, November 11th The Trains At NorthPark will be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. So, although we’re still hitting triple digits here in the great state of Texas… it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas with sections of the Trains at NorthPark layout coming together once again. Ya’ll – Thanksgiving is in 24 days, Christmas is in 55 days, New Years Day in 61 days, BUT in only 30 days…. TW TrainWorx aka TW Design aka Theatrical Warehouse Inc celebrates 40 years in business – W H A T ?! ?! I kid you not my Trainiac friends, that is an Absolutely TRUE Statement of FACT!!!!! Well Gaaawwwwley (Remember Gomer Pile??? December 1st, 1982 our Founder and Chief Traingineer, Roger Farkash – founded Theatrical Warehouse Inc to initially; design/build/install stage sets for theatres, film, and industrial shows in and around Dallas, Texas USA. Fast forward to 2009 and TW TrainWorx, a Division of Theatrical Warehouse, was created and has been growing steadily ever since with 2019 seeing 95% of our revenue coming solely from our Traintastic Train Customers – YEE HAW! Surviving the pandemic was in itself a major accomplishment, and Covid Craziness turned out to not only be a bane but a blessing in that we experienced an amazing convergence of existing and new train enthusiasts focused on putting a TW TrainWorx Custom Layout on the TOP OF THEIR wish list! We are working on some incredible O Gauge Layouts in both our Dallas & Concord Studios and excited to announce that we are collaborating with the Muncie Children’s Museum in Indiana to design/build/install a new O Gauge Layout for their Children’s Museum for 2023! June the Traingineers traveled to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to install the Colorado Section of a residential basement layout – enjoy some photos from that install: Next up in July, was an installation of two O Gauge Residential Layouts (one was rectangular, the other was oval shaped) in Glendale, California – Enjoy these photos from install: November 12, 2022 – The Trains at NorthPark opens! This annual Holiday Event in Dallas, Texas helps to support the amazing Ronald McDonald House of Dallas Charity and serves as their largest fund raiser. Cheers to 40 Years! Yepper, TW TrainWorx – a Division of TW Design is turning 40 in 2022!! What a phenomenal journey this has been and what an incredible accomplishment for Roger to have started this business a mere 7 months after the birth of our first child, Frank, who just turned 40 a couple of days ago. December 1, 1982, Roger founded Theatrical Warehouse Inc to be a business serving the Theatrical Community here in Dallas, TX where he led – design, fabrication, and installation of stage sets primarily for theatres. The quick synopsis goes like this… Initial focus encompassed design and construction of stage sets for Theatres which expanded into design/construction for; Corporate Industrial Shows, Toy Fair Showrooms, Tradeshow Exhibits, Museum Displays, Amusement Parks, and for the ’99 NY Toy Fair, Roger designed a custom booth for MTH incorporating running toy trains! In 2005, TW TrainWorx became the Official Layout Builder for Lionel when Jerry Calabrese was at the helm of Lionel, participating in shows across the country. In 2009 we created our TW TrainWorx (TWX) Division and now, thirteen years later 100% of our business is designing/building/installing toy train layouts for both residential and commercial customers all over the USA and… even in Canada! Knock me over with a feather, never in my wildest imagination did I see Toy Trains and Custom Layouts as becoming 100% of our business. Who’d a thunk a young man in his late 30’s, with a wife, 7-month-old baby boy, no business/management education, working a second job at the Dallas Summer Musicals, and in the early 80’s declaring himself a businessman by default” is now, in 2022, celebrating *40* years in his thriving family owned business!!! Absolutely Mind Boggling I tell you! What’s that you ask? When did I come onboard with Theatrical Warehouse Inc dba TW Design/TrainWorx? After the birth of our second child, Lindsay in 1983, I went back into the work force doing some marketing for another startup company and Roger asked me; Why don’t you do what you’re doing for them for me?” We made it official in March of 1985 and although I wouldn’t necessarily recommend being in business with your spouse for every young couple… for Roger and me, it’s made our phenomenal journey quite extraordinary!!!!
